Green Councillor calls for housing developer to clear up stink

The stench from sewage emitting from the student accommodation on Gibson Street needs to be resolved as a matter of urgency by UNITE, the multi-million pound company responsible for its design and management.

After a year and numerous complaints, UNITE has not completed the necessary improvements to the sewage disposal system from the building located beside the River Kelvin. Local residents and businesses say this is an unacceptable response and they can no longer tolerate lack of action by UNITE.

Councillor Martha Wardrop has made enquiries to UNITE seeking reassurance that the sewage problem would be resolved speedily.  Cllr Wardrop commented, “In the last week, I have asked for improvement works to seal the manhole where the stench of sewage from the UNITE building is emitted into Gibson Street. I am awaiting a timescale for the works. This situation cannot go on indefinitely. The sewage stench is running the area down and causing public health concerns for locals and visitors in the area. There is a need for urgent agreement by the project management at UNITE to prevent any further delays to seal the manhole outside the entrance to 10 Gibson Street.”
