Green Councillor supports transformation of derelict gap site
Over the Summer months, Green Councillor for Hillhead, Martha Wardrop has supported the establishment of a Community Garden on a gap site in Woodlands. This is an example of the efforts taking place in communities across Glasgow to transform derelict land in to productive growing areas.

efforts taking place in communities across Glasgow to transform derelict land in to productive growing areas.
Cllr Wardrop said; “This is a very worthwhile initiative bringing together local residents and businesses in Woodlands to become more energy efficient and involved in looking after their environment. People can take part in local food growing and make use of household or commercial food waste for composting.
She added: "It is already making a big difference by creating a social space where people can volunteer, gain practical skills and get to know their neighbours. I have become involved in the Woodlands Community Development Trust as a director recently and have been impressed with the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in developing this project.”
Green Councillors policy motion on the use of derelict sites as temporary public spaces wasapproved by full council in 2008. The council has now provided a detailed guide on how to take such schemes forward. Although the guide sits within the Business section of the website, it also includes guidance which would help local community groups to make a start on this. Please look at:
