Green Councillors say significant risk from Clyde Valley Shared Services

When councillors consider the business case for the Clyde Valley Shared Support Services, Green Councillors will highlight the significant risk associated with establishing a new company wholly owned by participating councils to deliver the shared services over the next 10 years.

Green Councillor Martha Wardrop commented that "The detailed business case indicates that Glasgow City Council would require to borrow approximately £28-31 million in the first five years. However, the business case is subject to changes depending on which councils agree to go forward with both phase 1 and 2 in the proposal. The financial projections will have to be carefully scrutinised in the coming months. The Council is anticipated savings from the money invested but there are financial risks associated with taking on further borrowing in an uncertain economic situation over the next 10 years."

Cllr Wardrop added; "There is uncertainty for 1,400 staff as to the long-term future of their jobs within the proposed Shared Services. Full consultation with the trade unions on an ongoing basis is vital and there has to be assurance that staff terms and conditions are protected."
