Greens celebrate 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day

- Cllr Martha Wardrop (Hillhead)
There has been progress for women's equality over the last 100
years, but it is recognised there is still much to be done to ensure
women are treated equally.
Cllr Martha Wardrop said, "Thousands of working women are
still discriminated against because they are pregnant and there is a pay
gap of 13% between men and women for the same job. We continue to live
in a society where women fear for their safety, with convictions for
rape are at an all time low at just 5.6%, and one in four women will
experience domestic violence in her lifetime".
Cllr Wardrop added, "Without strong women’s networks, support from both women's organisations and our wider society, the advances required could be seriously undermined.
In the year ahead, let us continue to take action to support women's equality and build a fairer, more equal world."
